Scothern Conservation Area Project (SCAP)

The SCAP Team would like to thank everyone who helped to make the recent 'History Day' a success. We will be contacting those who have offered docuemnts / photos etc shortly to arrange for photcopying or transcribing to take place.

A small selection of photographs taken on the day can be seen here.

What is a Conservation Area?

The purpose of a conservation area is to recognise the elements of our village which make it a special place, and to give these some protection from future inappropriate development. These elements include not only Scothern's old and historic buildings, but also for example its open green spaces and the pleasant residential enclaves created in the twentieth century.

An official 'conservation area' has special status conferred by West Lindsey District Council (WLDC), who can then take this status into account when considering matters affecting Scothern's environment and community, including planning applications of all sorts such as housing and business developments.

How will it affect me??

In a few weeks time the SCAP team will be discussing this question with some local experts who will provide a clear idea of how living in a conservation area may affect us. Please check back for updates next month.

How can I get involved?

The first step towards possibly having a Conservation Area is creating a new Village Survey (the last one was completed in 1988). The Village Survey will include Scothern's history, and it's historic buildings, but it is as much about the village TODAY, and will be forward looking as well as demonstrating how much we value our past.

You can contribute to the new Village Survey by:

  • Sharing your info...
  • Offering to research ...

Please let the Parish Clerk know if you are intereted in helping.
